Create your own circle map on the back of your handout.
- In the center of the inner circle, write your name.
- In the donut/tire space, brainstorm ideas that show who they are and where they come from. You can draw pictures or write words/phrases that define who you are.
- In the box that surround the circle map, write down the names of people who have most influenced you.
4. INSTRUCTION:
- I need to teach you how to create and turn in documents through Google.
- I also need to learn more about you.
- So you will write FREE VERSE POEMS in the style of George Ella Lyon's "Where I'm From" in order to reveal selected personal details or characteristics.
- Let's start by analyzing Lyon's poem to see what we can learn about her.
- On your handout, take notes on the group discussion.

I am from a front porch which faced a diamond sparkling with teenage boys playing an American pastime, their glove slaps reaching across the street. |
7. YOUR TURN
Using your circle map and your copy of "Where I am From", write your own version of "Where I'm From" so that I can learn more about you.
